About Barwaaqo

A local organization shaped by the places we call home.

BDA was established in Garowe in April 2025 to respond to development priorities identified across Puntland communities.

Why BDA began

Development should start with what people already know.

Households across Puntland depend on agriculture, rangelands, water sources and coastal resources for everyday life.

Climate variability, reduced water availability and environmental degradation create connected pressures. BDA brings practical field implementation together with responsible care for natural resources so communities can adapt, recover and build more self-reliant livelihoods.

The standard we set

Six values for the way we work.

These are practical commitments for planning, delivery and accountability—not decoration for a policy page.

Community participation

Communities lead and actively shape project planning and implementation.

Equity & inclusion

Vulnerable groups receive fair access to voice and opportunity.

Sustainability

Interventions are designed for local ownership and long-term use.

Integrity & accountability

Resources, decisions and results are managed transparently.

Culture & local knowledge

Local practices and values inform the way we work.

Environmental responsibility

Land and marine ecosystems are protected for the future.

Governance

Clear responsibility from leadership to the field.

BDA’s proposed structure connects strategic oversight, program delivery, financial discipline, monitoring and community engagement.
